Traditional recycling has significant limitations: many types of plastics cannot be processed, the methods are often energy-intensive and costly, recycled materials frequently lose quality, and inefficient recycling can still contribute to environmental pollution.
Gravity of the crisis
1. According to European Union(EU), in 2022, 41% of plastic packaging was recycled, mostly into low-quality goods, boosting stats but keeping virgin plastic demand.
2. Over 165 million tonnes of plastic circulate in oceans and waterways, breaking into microplastics that enter the food chain and harm marine life. Without action, plastic could outweigh fish in the oceans by 2050.
